Another Emily Henry novel is making its way to the big screen.

20th Century Studios is developing a film based on Henry’s Beach Read, Deadline reports.

Henry’s novel, published in 2020 by Jove/Penguin, follows an unlikely friendship between two authors. Augustus writes heavy literary fiction, and January pens romance novels. The two become beach-house neighbors one summer, and embark on a challenge: Augustus will try to write something light, while January will attempt writing the Great American Novel.

A critic for Kirkus called the book “a heartfelt look at taking second chances, in life and in love.”

The film adaptation will be written and directed by Yulin Kuang (Kissing in the Rain, I Ship It). Kuang recently signed a book deal with Avon; her debut novel, Good in a Room, will be published in 2024.

Kuang also wrote the screenplay for a film adaptation of Henry’s 2021 novel, People We Meet on Vacation. That movie is being directed by Brett Haley (Looking for Alaska, All the Bright Places).

And there’s another Henry adaptation in the works. Last week, it was announced that the author’s 2022 novel, Book Lovers, is in development as a film to be written by Sarah Heyward.
